Texas State Plan For The Education of Gifted/Talented Students- English
The Texas State Plan for the Education of Gifted/Talented Students provides a statewide framework to ensure that students who are identified as gifted or talented receive learning experiences that match their unique abilities, interests, and potential. Developed and approved by the Texas State Board of Education and required by the Texas Education Code, the State Plan guides school districts in designing, delivering, and continuously improving services for gifted/talented (G/T) students across Texas.
The State Plan outlines clear expectations for how schools identify gifted/talented students and how services should be provided to support advanced learning, creativity, leadership, and problemsolving. While districts design programs to meet local needs, all G/T programs must align with the State Plan’s accountability standards, which reflect state law and researchbased best practices.
The State Plan is organized into six key areas, each describing an essential component of highquality gifted/talented services:
- Fidelity of Implementation
Requires districts to regularly review and improve their G/T programs to ensure services remain effective and responsive to student needs. - Student Identification
Describes how school districts identify gifted/talented students using multiple measures to ensure equitable access for all students. - Service Design
Explains how G/T services are structured and delivered so that instruction is appropriately challenging and provided throughout the school year. - Curriculum and Instruction
Focuses on learning experiences that go beyond the general curriculum and promote depth, complexity, creativity, and advanced thinking. - Professional Development
Outlines required training for educators and administrators to ensure they understand the unique learning needs of gifted/talented students. - Family and Community Involvement
Emphasizes the importance of clear communication, collaboration with families, and meaningful partnerships that support student learning.
For families, the Texas State Plan serves as an important resource for understanding what gifted/talented education looks like in Texas schools and what districts are expected to provide. Parents are valued partners in the G/T process, and the State Plan supports transparency, continuous improvement, and highquality learning opportunities for gifted/talented students at every grade level.
